The complete report of extension block of construction of street kids home at Tiruvuru, Krishna Dt. Andhra Pradesh, India 2005.
Project no. CA04/1770
On, 2nd, December, 1998, “initiatives in development, empowerment and awareness society (ideas) was established as a non-governmental, non-profit, voluntary organization at Tiruvuru, Andhra Pradesh, India. Ideas is committed for the welfare of street and working children as well as for empowering the domestic workers, the least organized and exploited women labour force.
Caritas Anthoniana has come forward to support an extension block for street kids of Tiruvuru when we are in need of more space and rooms for the street kids. I have already presented the first report and now the final report is presented here.
Aim of the project:
A. To maintain a shelter home for street and working children.
B. To campaign for the rights of children
C. Other services for the welfare of children in risk and difficulties.
A SHELTER HOME: At present there are 32 children living at our shelter home. These children receive food, clothes, care, education, respect, dignity, protection and medical attention too. we are able to do this because of the support we receive from missionzentrale der franziskanar, Bonn, Germany.
B CAMPAIGN FOR THE RIGHTS OF STREET CHIDREN. We do work to promote and educate the general public and the children themselves on the rights of children. The new extension block has “office” to promote this kind of campaign work with people, students, and non-governmental developmental organization and with government too.
C OTHER SERVICES TO STREET CHIDREN. Ideas is a friendly to all the children at risk and in difficulties, thus the children can walk in whenever they have problems, and the children do come each time a teacher, or a parent beat them as though they beat up animals. The children knew that they could trust and count on Ideas on their side.
We shall use this newly built home to reach out as many street and working children as possible. Children in difficulties can always walk in and use this home to bathe, rest, recreate, learn, play, and share their joys, and sorrows. At present 400 children is getting benefit as they receive non –formal education, counseling, and health care too.
We purchased the land 0.05 cents from the contributions of well wishers of street children at Tiruvuru. This land is near to the Bus station where the whole town comes to get in to the buses. The sale deed for land took place on December 13th, 2001. We are grateful for Aktion dreikogssingen, Aachen, Germany, for building the ground floor and now CARITAS ANTHONIANA came forward to complete the all the space needs of street children by supporting the construction of extension block of kids home.
December, 3rd, 2004, on the feast of St. Francis Xavier, the Director of Ideas, Mr. Avvari Shouri led a prayer service along with the staff, and children as he laid the foundation stone, for first and second floors. Five people broke five coconuts to each one standing still, and praying for the donors, and for the safety of the workers who will build the building and for the children who will be staying there. Shouri, the director, prayed for caritas anthoniana in a special way for supporting the cause of street children by providing better facilities to live. He thanked and praised the lord for such generosity showed by the caritas Anthoniana.
The following works are completed in the first installment:
•The first and second floor roofs are fully completed
• The first floor walls consist of two large rooms are over.
• The second floor pillars are built.
• Three toilet and bathing rooms are also built.
• Two large rooms are built and box type cupboards are made by cement to keep the clothes, and the personal belongings of street children.
There is a minor change in the plan. That is instead of building small rooms as planned earlier, the priest friends and well-wishers suggested to build large rooms, so that whenever there is a need for other purposes the rooms could be used. Thus instead of making small rooms we are making large rooms so that rooms could be used for multi-purpose. First we purchased the materials, like Steel, Iron, bricks, sand and chips and then called the workers to start the building the construction.
I am furnishing the statement of accounts for the amount we received and spent, for the construction of shelter home for street and working children. I am also sending the details of expenses for the first and second installments together. (Enclosed in a separate paper is the statement of accounts for the total amount received)

Inauguration of the shelter home: On 28th May 2005 we had the privilege of Rev. Fr. Christy O.F.M. conv., Fr. Varghese O.F.M. conv., the mayor of the town and other dignitaries for the inauguration function. The fathers prayed and blessed the first and second floors. Though we had few things yet to do for the building, we decided to use it early the home as the need is great. We had constructed first and second floors and fortunately we had two OFM, conventuals to pray and bless the home. Dr. Pradeep, friend of IDEAS presided over the function. The children were full of thrill and happy over their new home.
About 300 children assembled at the tent where we had the programme. Fr. Christy and Fr. Varghese gave their blessings to the children and promised to support for the good cause of Tiruvuru people and especially for street, working children. The Director of IDEAS, Mr. Shouri thanked Fr. Christy and Fr. Varghese for their blessings and encouragement. He also thanked Caritas Anthoniana and Fr. Luciana Masserotto OFM conv. for extending support for the construction of the extension block of street kids home.
We also wrote our gratefulness on a stone and fixed it on the building. The words are: “We are grateful to Caritas Anthoniana and to Fr. Luciana Masserotto OFM conv. paduva, Italy.” The inauguration programme lasted 3 hours with compliments from the prominent people of the town and with cultural programmes of children. All the 300 children received their lunch at IDEAS after the programme. It was a exciting day for the children and the director Shouri whispered a prayer for the success of the programme.
Conclusion: The Carpenters and the electrical works took a bit of time, thus a bit of delay took place to enter the new home, soon after the inaugural programme. Now all the works are over, we are using the place for the purpose it has been built. I praise and thank the good Lord for Caritas Anthoniana, who supported the construction of kid’s home
Once more on behalf of IDEAS and the street children, we say a BIG THANKS to Rev. Fr. Luciana Masserotto OFM conv. and to Caritas Anthoniana
